The search for the next great band is on

“THE NEXT GREAT AMERICAN BAND”
I’m feeling a little fatigue from the Search for the Next Great (Insert what we’re searching for here.) Singers, comics, chefs, tattoo artists. What’s next? While Diddy continues to make his band season after season, the producers of “American Idol” are hoping to find the next Beatles. Or maybe they’d be happy with the next Matchbox Twenty. The format will seem familiar to you: bands, who have been selected from videotaped submissions, perform before a panel of three judges. Included in this panel is a British guy (British-born TV host Ian Dickson), a music star from the past (Sheila E) and someone who is still in the biz. In this case, it’s Johnny Rzeznik, the lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls. His participation lends the competition some credibility. Someone who wrote one of the most popular songs of all time, “Iris,” might know something about having a successful band. After selecting 12 finalists, two bands will be eliminated each week.
