September 28, 2007 The Next Great American Band To Kick Off With Three Two-Hour Episodes In what could become the highest rated show to ever hit Friday night, The Next Great American Band will premiere with three special two-hour episodes. The extended episodes will air on Friday, October 19, Friday, October 26 and Friday, Novever 2 from 8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT. Beginning November 9, the show will air in its regular time period on Fridays from 8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT. The Next Great American Band is from the producers behind American Idol. Instead of looking for a solo singer, the show’s mission is to find undiscovered groups. Singer/songwriter John Rzeznik from The Goo Goo Dolls, legendary percussionist and performer Sheila E. who recorded “The Glamorous Life” and “A Love Bizarre,” and Australian TV personality Ian “Dicko” Dickson from Australian Idol will serve as judges. Dominic Bowden from New Zealand Idol hosts the series. From the auditions, featured on the October 19 premiere, judges Rzeznik, Sheila E. and “Dicko” will narrow down the hopefuls to 12 semifinalist bands who will perform weekly in front of a live studio audience. From hair bands to hip-hop and classic rockers to country crooners, every genre of music will be represented and each week the bands will perform the varied styles. Then it will be up to the viewers to determine with their votes who will secure a contract with 19 Recordings and the title of Next Great American Band. http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/blog/2007/09/the-next-great-.html

Notice how the writer of the piece does not mention what channel the show is aired on. Not saying I care to know, but someone, somewhere might need to know...for some reason.

That is interesting. I didn't notice that before. If you don't know what channel it's on .... it is on FOX.

Well, it IS a AI knock off, so one could probably assume... And what do you mean, you don't need to know when it's on? You MUST watch and join the real time WOG discussion thread each week.

I didn't read, but I wonder how it'll do? Usually these kind of shows suck. I've seen many of them before and don't seem like anybody really remember any of them. It's like John said before, ppl like to listen to what's alread established. I think ppl nowadays, especially young ones are more used to catchy tunes and bands don't really make catchy tunes. I wish them the best, but not surprised if the show sucked.....just the nature of it i guess.

| That's actually an excellent point. It may not do well if the bands aren't doing covers of music viewers recognize. It'll be interesting to see how it does. Viewers do love their reality tv.

This show will have to focus on the band members' personalities more than the music, I think. I agree that people won't get attached to the show to hear the original music. They'll tune in to see some band's crazy onstage antics or backstage fights or because some singer of a band is attractive. Which also means the winning band will be a bunch of young attractive emo guys who are about to self-destruct or it will be some gimmick band, like the band of pre-teens that apparently made it to the finals. I hope the show does well enough that it isn't some huge dark spot on John's history, but I also hope it's a one time thing for him.
