... goo excerpt ... Popular Peter Jacobsen hopes to defend his Senior Players title By Scott Salowich, Heritage Newspapers PUBLISHED: July 9, 2006 With a classic swing and a youthful personality, Peter Jacobsen was truly a popular champions at last year's Ford Senior Players Championship. Just not as popular as he thought. "I was coming up 18 and I saw all these young girls hanging around the green waiting for me," Jacobsen recalled last month when he returned to Dearborn for a press conference to kickoff this year's event. "I figured that, even though I'm over 50, I'm still hot." As it turned out, the kids were more interested in the Goo Goo Dolls concert that followed the tournament than the exploits of the golfers, but the revelation didn't bother Jacobsen a bit. He piled into the crowd to sign autographs for young and old alike, then hopped up on stage to bring out the band. "(PGA officials) were looking all over for me because I was supposed to be doing all these interviews," Jacobsen said, "but I was up on stage goofing around." The amateur guitarist and rock fan spent almost as much time in those interviews commenting on the music scene as his victory, which came at the expense of Hale Irwin, who led most of the way in the final round before missing birdie putts on 17 and 18 to wind up second. "For me to hang with and eventually beat Hale Irwin is a proud moment for me," said Jacobsen. "I've got great respect for him as a player and there's nobody you'd rather beat then a great player." The Goo Goo Dolls won't be back this year, but Collective Soul will provide the post-tourney tunes and Jacobsen will return to take on the best the Champions Tour has to offer. .....this year Collective Soul will take the stage Full Length Article: http://www.thenewsherald.com/stories/070906/spo_20060709001.shtml Stay True & Rock On!
