So, has anybody listened to it yet? I've been listening to parts of the songs. I'm not sure if I like it yet. It almost sounds like they've slowed down a bit too much. I don't know. lol Give me a few days, I'll love it. What do you think?

I listened to it once. I love it so far. I don't want to listen to it anymore until next week. Of course I might have to listen to Can't Let It Go a couple more times. I'm in completel love with that song.

Once I finally listened to it at like 4am, I was so distressed by how much I hated it that I wrote a pretty scathing review. Don't ban me... I just listened to the whole album and here are my thoughts... A story: About 3 years ago I got some fancy software to edit sound files. While I was converting some really old live cassettes to .wav files, I discovered tools to remove cracks, hissing, and pops from the audio. Being inexperienced, I turned up the settings as high as they would go, assuming that meant there would be no flaws in the final product. But, when I listened to what I had just done, the final result wasn't a perfect live recording. It was sludge. It was perfectly smooth, but it was crap. The pops and hisses were gone, but so were the dynamics of the live performance and the highs and lows of the guitars and vocals. To me, LLI sounds like the sludge. With protools, I'm sure every note is in perfect time and every note is the right note, but music isn't about the right notes. The mistakes and crackles and hisses are what makes a song. LLI feels so glossed over it's like you're not listening to anything at all. I hated it. I hated almost all of it. At least four times while listening I thought "This has to be a joke. It's an ultimate April Fool's joke. This is not the Goo Goo Dolls". My first mission tomorrow morning is to find Jack Joseph Puig and tell him I hate him. I ripped the VH1 stream and listened to it on my ipod so the sound isn't going to be awesome, but God... the vocals are like sludge in the music. I could barely make out anything that was being sung. There are no clear vocals. You can barely hear Robby and John's vocals are all slurred. The band I once identified by their super catchy but clever hooks is barely here. Moving on, some of the lyrics made me cringe. Seriously, I think there has to be some of the worst and obvious rhymes ever. It's a shame too, because there are some really cool lines in some of the songs, but then bad cliches and rhymes kill it. I will give them this: The song Let Love In is catchy like crack. I've only heard it completely once and it seems to be burrowing in to my brain. I have no idea what John is saying in the song, but at least it's memorable. I do like Feel the Silence for the hook as well, even though I'm weirded out by the double vocals thing and some awful lyrics. And I won't knock Stay With You or Better Days, even though I'm not a huge fan of the latter. And, I really do think most of these songs will be bearable live, when vocals are let loose a little. So yeah, I'm pretty much insanely let down. I've been a fan of pretty much everything they've done and it makes me incredibly sad to dislike this album as much as I do, especially because of how long the wait has been and how long the wait will be until the next one. Flame away.... Oh, and this line "It seems the ones who love us are the one that we deceive" is the first time I have ever said " Holy crap! Replacements line!" (Go read the lyrics to Bastards of Young)

I've been listening to the CD all the way through and I'm finding that I'm really starting to like it. It's hard getting used to how different it is, but the songs all flow together quite nicely and the music is very well done. The Goo Goo Dolls are amazing in the fact that they can pull off almost any type of music. They probably went in this direction to expand their horizons. At the same time, I wonder how this album will appeal to people. It seems to me that you can have more of an appreciation for Let Love In if you know where the Goo Goo Dolls have come from and listened to their progression through the years. After listening, I find the new sound softer sound to be quite relaxing, meaningful and beautiful.

nmf016: You've voiced everything I've feared for this CD. When I read the lyrics on the site I was so disappointed. Most of it is so poorly written, too many cliches, that the good lines get lost. I'm so sick of John starting sentences/phrases with "And" - it's just lazy songwriting. I can tolerate that kind of thing in a song like Name because it's such a good song that it can handle it. As for the music, I've only heard the snippets on the website but I'm not too pleased. The songs sound like lots of other acts to me. "Feel the Silence" sounds so much like a Creeper Lagoon song that I dug out "Take Back the Universe" and listened to it for a whole day - those are great songs from 2001 and they made the new Goo sound trite. I'm not feeling this album. Gutterflower was a partial disappointment but I fear this will be a total one. I realize this is a matter of taste. Perhaps is Glen Ballard. Perhaps it's them trying for one more great CD before they disband. Perhaps they peaked at DUTG. Perhaps I'm too much of a Westerberg fan now. I just don't know.

| I'm very upset. Not with you, with the CD. I kind of agree with you. I remember when I first listened to Gutterflower and I immediately liked at least 80% of the CD. I know if I listen to this one more, the songs will grow on me (that's usually what happens) but that's not supposed to be the case with the Goo Goo Dolls. They rock and I know it. Their music - well, I'm just supposed to really like it upon first listen, you know? My first impression is that a few of the songs sound like they are making them up as they go along. And sometimes something sounds off with John's voice. Almost like he's singing keys that are too high for his voice. I'm really disappointed that A) Better Days is on there because initially they gave the impression that this song was only for the Target Christmas CD. I do not care for this song, and B) there is no acoustic song on the CD, like Sympathy or Acoustic #3. I know it's not required but it was something I was looking forward to. Robby's songs seem almost dead. Where's the energy from him that we love? I'm wondering if the producers were trying to make what they thought was a more radio-friendly album. I loved Gutterflower but none of the songs really took off. I don't know. Of course I'm going to race out and buy it next week and it will probably end up being played nonstop in my car. I just don't like the fact that after my first listen I am actually turned off by some of the songs. I mean, Goo is my favorite band. It's not supposed to be like that.

Wow. Haha lots of negativity up in here. Of course, all of you have a right to your opinion, and I'm not just going to say "Come on guys! It's goo! Give it a chance! It HAS to be great because they made it!" because it annoys the crap out of me when people do that, especially because most of them know nothing about music. Haha everything that people are complaining about on this CD is what makes me love it. The CD is very different from their usual standard, but it's like a whole new depth of expression and I love that they can evolve and change and take on new perspectives in their music. The roughness of their old Replacements-worshipping days is almost all gone and now they sound more like U2....I even hear strains of the Flaming Lips and the Beatles in there. As far as the "sludge"-ness is concerned, I noticed that from the first clip of Stay With You that appeared online, but once I got the mp3 from iTunes it got a lot better. Maybe the same thing is happening here? I don't know the quality of the Vh1 recording, but my friend got me an advance copy of the CD and it's really not too noticeable except on Feel the Silence. And I actually like the way the lyrics blend with the music sometimes, but I think that's just a personal preference. I'm a singer and I like a polished sound....I can't stand it when the vocals are off in pitch or quality with the music. I love the theme that runs through the album, and I think I finally understand why they put Better Days and Give a Little Bit on there (haha which I still don't entirely agree with). I actually adore all the rhyming, but that's another personal thing. I use a lot of rhymes in my own songwriting and I'll often sacrifice lyrical value for a good rhyme....I guess it's just the Cole Porter in me. As for John using "and" to begin his phrases, I don't think it's lazy, I just think it's style. J.K. Rowling overuses adverbs like there's no tomorrow but it's part of what makes her books so fun to read. "And" is just a part of Johnny's signature writing style. I will admit, there are a few lyrics that also make me cringe, especially in Feel the Silence. And my least favorite one, "You lie awake at night, with blue eyes that never cry"....agghhh it repeats at the end! He should have just ended it with "how do we hold on?" repeating, because the ending just makes me want to vomit. I think for some people, this album is going to take some heavy listening, but I loved it the very first time. Even some tracks I didn't love at first are starting to grow on me, like Without You Here. I actually kind of hated it when I first listened to it, but I tried it again this morning and found myself really getting into it. I think overall it's an incredibly unique album with a lot of depth and a very positive, mellow feel. I love the use of harmony (squeeeee I am a harmony fiend), the really different guitar and electronic tracks laid over very simple chords, I loved BOTH Robby songs immediately, which is a total first for me, and I think that there are several tracks that stand out as having the potential to be very commercially successful. If you don't like it, I am totally ok with that, but I myself am totally in love with Let Love In!

| Funny you mention that Feel the Silence made you think of a different band. I've had the same experience. Stay With You doesn't get stuck in my head, it makes someone else's song get stuck in my head (Not Broken by Hurst.). Let Love In made me think of something else too, but I can't remember what right now. I can understand them trying to get the "last great record" to go out with a bang, but they didn't even attempt to really do that. I think the Goos are pretty well known for their hooks, which are consistant in older and newer material, but there's nothing on this record. I love Paul Westerberg as well (which is very far from being pop radio friendly), but I can appreciate a good pop song. Unfortunately, this album doesn't have the musical 'genius' that linked the Goos to the Replacements and it doesn't have a radio friendly feel either. It's just a blur of sounds. As for your comment, iris3732, I really really can't see how anyone would be concerned that the Goos wouldn't write radio friendly songs and try to change them. The Goos were pretty much the most obscenely radio friendly band out there with the last two records. If LLI had been a natural progression from DUTG and GF it would have been radio friendly. What I think we've gotten instead is something so un-listener friendly that I, a huge fan of the Goos and a hopeless lover of good radio pop songs, can't bear to listen to it again.
