What's GOO-ing on with the Goo's?

Before, their music was really negative and depressing. Then they made a really big change and gotten really soft. Now all of a sudden, they're all positive? Their new albums is "let love in" + "better days" and "give a lil bit"? I kinda understand the change from "aboynamedgoo" to "dizzy", but WOW...this is the hugest step ever. Don't get me wrong, I think they're rocking just as good now, but this is definitely a big change that I don't think anybody could have anticipated.

| yea, no matter what they say, they always do. Besides, a few of us could use some uplifting words, it's a change for the better! I mean I love their depressing music, that's what got me into the band, but like I said, we need something a little more uplifting, especially w/ Christmas just 3 days away!!! Everyone should be happy on the holidays.

Well, it's cool for me because that ABNG/Dizzy period was a time when I wasn't feeling too well in life. But now I'm a lot more positive, so I need some positive music anyway. But then, we won't know how the whole album is going to turn out until we have a listen. I can't wait.

That's what I love about the Goos, though! You can actually trace their maturation through each their albums. The earlier stuff is very rough, unorganized, "young"-sounding. They start to mature with HMU, and by the time SSCW rolls around, you can hear the stories of their lives so far in the music. They've grown up. By ABNG, they've started to sound a little jaded with the world. DUTG has a lot of depressing songs on it...Black Balloon, Hate This Place, etc. Gutterflower is kind of a transitional thing for all of them...the post-DUTG explosion, Johnny's divorce. And now their songs seem so much wiser and positive because they've grown from their past experience and learned more as musicians and as human beings. It's a beautiful thing!

It was weird for me because my first cd was DUTG, then Gutterflower, then I got them in backwards order (ABNG then SSCW then HMU then JED the First Release). Instead of hearing them mature as they went along, I heard them immature lol. But I think it's good that way because I like every one of their songs now and I'm afraid that if I had first heard them back around Jed, I wouldn't have been a fan That's one of the reasons I really enjoyed EOAC and I hope they do another. Not only was it cool to hear each song remastered/added to, but it was neat listening to them in descending order to see how much they matured. Maybe if they do another they can have them in ascending order. Well, I could talk about Goo forever, so I'll just stop now before I keep blabbing. |
| I got my Goo cds in the same order you did. I like all of their songs too and I like hearing how their music matures. I also love how all of their albums are all very different from each other.
