DirecTV to launch music show on new channel

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - DirecTV Group Inc., said Tuesday it plans to produce a music show featuring performances, interviews and other content on a new channel for subscribers of its satellite television service.
The weekly, hour-long show, dubbed "CD USA," is slated to premiere on Jan. 21 and will feature performances by pop, indie, rock and urban acts.
Goo Goo Dolls, David Gray and Ben Harper are among the artists already scheduled to appear on the show. Other acts highlighted on MySpace.com, the popular music and social-networking Web site, will also be featured, the company said.
The show represents the first foray by DirecTV, which has more than 14 million customers nationwide, into producing original programming, said spokeswoman Elizabeth Owen.
"CD USA" will be broadcast on DirecTV's channel 101 and in high-definition on channel 401.
"The performances will be up close and personal, the news will be fresh and interesting," said Conor McAnally, the show's executive producer. "'CD USA' will be the essential guide to what's happening in music today."
