Replacements Fans?

The other day I just found a ton of songs by the Replacements and I have a nice little collection on my computer now. I can't get over how much John sounds like Westerberg! It's weird. Anybody into them here? And what song do you like best?

I have the "All Shook Down" cd. Really enjoying it, the critics consider this to be their "sell out" album It's from 1990, I haven't heard any of their earlier stuff. I just bought it because there's alot of talk of Westerberg on this site...and John likes them, that's all the recommendation I need! The tracks I like best are: Nobody, Merry Go Round, My Little Problem (a great little attitude song)! ~Sherri

I love the Replacements and solo Paul Westerberg. I don't think Paul and John sound the same, but you can definitely hear some influential sounds. My favorite albums are Tim, Let It Be, and Pleased to Meet Me. I'm not a big fan of the later 'Mats stuff like All Shook Down and Don't Tell a Soul. If you want to hear a nice mix of Replacements songs, I highly recommend their 'best of' All For Nothing/Nothing For All. That was my first 'Mats album and from there I went back and got all of their records.

Love the 'Mats and Paul's solo work. I came to them through the Goos and I have to admit I probably love them more than the Goos. I don't think John sounds much like Paul - at least not for the last 10 years or so. Favorite Mat's albums: Pleased To Meet Me, Tim and All Shook Down. Some favorite Mats songs: Can't Hardly Wait, Valentine, Bent Out Of Shape, Left of the Dial, Skyway Favorite Paul albums: Suicaine Gratifaction, Folker and Stereo Some favorite Paul songs: Whatever Makes You Happy, What A Day (For A Night), Stain Yer Blood, Love Untold, Angels Walk Paul is brilliant - one of the best songwriters of his (my) generation. While there are lots of people can write a good Westerbergian lyric (including John), no one does it better than Paul. If you ever get the chance, please see him in concert. I saw him at the 9:30 Club in DC in 2002 and last summer these were two of the best concerts I've been to in my life.

Love them! Tim & Don't Tell a Soul are my fave albums. Fave songs... Skyway, A Little Mascara, and Left of the Dial are the first ones that come to mind.
