I also think that "We are the normal" does too, but he wrote that with the lead singer of the Replacements, so I guess it would sound a lot like them.

I can see how some may think they sound like the replacements...but not enough to give a damn. It's like comparing dr. dre to ludacris..cuz they both rap. Anyways, I remember seeing an interview and John was like "everybody keep saying we sound like the replacemnt...so we wrote a song that sounds like the replacement...and whalla..."hate this place"..haha..so funny.

I have always said that the Goos have a unique sound that no one else can master, i'm just saying that a few of their songs sound a lot like the Replacements thats all.

I hear a similarity in earlier Goo stuff - mainly on Jed, HMU and a bit on ABNG. They've branched well beyond that now.

| Definitely - and for me, I think that's part of their appeal: the fact that you can hear their progression all the way through their albums, you know that they've been growing and learning all this time, and they're not just standing still churning out the same old stuff. IMO, it's to their credit that they used their influences (Replacements et al) to initially have a similar sound and then use them as a starting-block to boost them on to newer things. As for "Hate This Place" I'm pretty sure John wrote it specifically to sound like the Replacements, as he was fed up of people saying they sounded like them....!!
