This is an odd question but since the DUTG era up to now, do you think your opinion of the Goos has changed? If yes, then why? Also, this might be weird. Like back in the DUTG era, John had this whole different aura about him. LOL. Am I weird? I don't know. It's hard to describe. He used to seem so "untouchable" and the media made him seem like a sex god. During that time a lot of women or girls fell in love with him and became obsessed with him. Now, he just seem so much more approachable...down to earth, ya know. LOL...I don't know if what I'm saying makes sense. Do you guys know what I'm trying to say? Maybe I dwell too much on this...it's just something I've wanted to know about for a few years, since Gutterflower came out. During the ABNG era he seemed more approachable that he did in the DUTG era too. What happened between the DUTG era and the Gutterflower era that made him change his "scene"? Urrgh...this is hard to explain..sorry I rambled so much..lol. What are your opinions on all of this? ...for those of you who can get an ounce of sense from what I just said. lol.

I understand you.I felt the same way.I became a fan about 2 years ago and most of the interviews and things I saw(DUTG ERA) he seemed like just about any other celebrity like during the fanatic thing almost like he didn't care. Now he seems so appreciative of the fans and he seems much more approachable.I get you!!!

I think that probably for DUTG the recotd label tried to give them a 'look' y'know? All sharp suits and perfect hair, the GF era was so effortless and casual in comparison. And John probably seemed less aproachable then because he kinda had fame thrust upon him when 'Iris' and everything happened. Anywho, whatever the era, you gotta love him, especially that smile.......

i get what you're saying! Back in the DUTG era, he did seem more a "celebrity" in a sense.. and now, ok, he's a "celebrity" but it's different! talk about not being able to describe what you mean! LOL but I understand.. now it feels like you can go up to him and not worry about him totally brushing you off like back during the DUTG. I've not met him, so I can't speak from experience, but it seems everyone who has met him or any of the guys now, they seem pretty laid back!

All the goo goo dolls fans know what u mean... Yeh when singers get a big hit they become public property beacuse of the hype surrounding them. And the goo's are not that type of band - they try to keep it real and write songs for their fans. Thats maybe why they left Gutterflower album to do later after a few years . i mean they only released EOAC- and then after this they came refreshed and with their experince of being chart toppers they knew where they wanted to be - playing for fans and writing music. I think john got divorced at that time and he said gutterflower was his break up record and when u listen to it his feelings are reflecting in it and it brings it home that money and fame isnt all that. Its just that hollywood image - 'HE SAID U LOOK LIKE A HOLLYWOOD GIRL- I SAID HOLLYWOOD COULD FALL IN THE OCEAN MAN COS ITS THE UGLIEST PLACE IN THE WHOLE WIDE WOLRD' -LOL, but the guys know that with there fans is where they connect and thats cool cos now we had LIVE IN BUFFALO and sirius show and Dearborn is coming. Im glad that bands such as the goos are so reachable, cos even though they had big hits u can still meet them and not feel that they may blow u off if u ask them to take a pic/signature. It shoud be at an appropriate time cos some of my mates met some famous people- not goo's and they either didnt allow photos or when my frined wanted to get two signatures they only let her have one cos they probably aware that some people r untrustworthy as they sell the signatures to make money. Oh im talking to much.. hey my friend told me she heard a goo song on radio... thats her first goo song she heard cos i was telling her about the band. She going to toronto - lucky her. lol

LOL...I really think I dwell too much on things!! Thanks for your opinions. It just baffles me that the media had so much influence on how I use to percieve him. I don't pay attention to it as much as I used to. I was one of those ppl that got marginally obsessed with John back in the DUTG era and I still like him but not in the same immature sense. I feel really stupid for doing it but it was hard for me not to look at him back then in the media and not think about him in the sense that he was one of those 'dream guys'. I was young and stupid but anyway, my perception of him has changed and in a positive way...I'm glad that he seems not so out of reach - and no, that doesn't mean I think I could marry the guy...lol. That would be pretty ridiculous. He seems so much more like a 'commoner'. Boy, do I ever need to get a life!! lol.

eek! um... my opinion hasn't necessarily changed, but some of my feelings towards the band have changed some. i think John has maybe become more comfortable in his skin and with the whole sex symbol type stuff. i'm sure when you're thrown into that it takes some time to get used to to work through some of the anger and stress surrounding it. maybe he's not letting the bullshit get to him as much anymore? and an increase in self confidence. i don't know... that's what i see and i've been a fan for a long ass time... so i know what you're talking about. the Dizzy era... they were like... big big popular... so there was probably a lot more to worry about that'll make them less "available". the bigger the band, the less available to their fans they are. on May 12th, 2005, 4:39am, DrPepperGoo87 wrote:This is an odd question but since the DUTG era up to now, do you think your opinion of the Goos has changed? So I guess I'm the minority who thinks John has become more 'unapproachable'. Back during the DUTG era they all seemed kind of uncomfortable with all the attention but seemed really excited to be there. Yes, they al, esp. John, had a very stylized rockstar look, but were pretty easy to access. With the GF tour, you saw more present security. John pretty much always has someone looking after him, which makes it harder to approach him. This could be due to the crazy stalker people John has spoken of, but it could also be an easy way to be left alone a bit more. On the other hand, Robby seemed to be waaaay more accessible. Also, during the GF record, the band seemed a lot more tired, like "been there, done that". Of course, take my opinions with a grain of salt. I've never taken action to meet any of the band members and don't really plan on it, so I can't really judge how approachable they are in reality. (This excludes last summer where I kinda met John, but that was just a weird situation)

| You're probably not the only one who has that perspective. You have to keep in mind that what I saw as John's personality and accessibility came purely from the media, other fans, and my immature imagination. You also have to remember that I've never seen them in concert or met them in person so my idea of what he was like as a person in the DUTG era may have been completely misconstrued. In the DUTG era, he was a sort of sex-god major rock star in the media and apparently to a lot of females (just have a look at that groupiedirt.com website if you want to know more about what I mean). Now look at him, the difference in his clothes, the way he presents himself in promotional photos compared to the DUTG era where the media sort of threw his image into the 'you can't touch me because I'm a rock star' mix. To me, there's a major difference in that. The way the media presented him then is completely different from the way they do nowadays. The band as a whole may have been more accessible then but then again, I wouldn't know because I never got to meet them back then...nor have I still as of this moment. To those of us who paid attention to him in the media, myself included obviously, he seemed like one of the guys who would only be seen with really attractive models, and 'hot' actresses, people of that nature. He seemed like he wouldn't have the time of day for a fan, let alone him dating an average person on the street or maybe even a woman that he met at a bar. There were SO many women claiming to have 'been' with him after they had met him after a concert or at a hotel and I wanted to believe it was untrue but the fact that they were saying those things struck some curiousity in me and had some effent as to what I thought he was like in those perimeters (notice the appropriation manuver I just used..lol). Apart from the media and what others said of him, I had no way of knowing what he was really like in person. Of course, I tried in all honesty to think of him as a good person because I wanted to believe that about him. I also used common sense that some of these girls were just making it up, if not all of them, for attention or self compliance. What I saw as his 'aura' was him being untouchable, unreachable, and in some ways, the perfect man. I don't think that's true anymore and yes, some of it has to do with the way he presents himself in the media and the way the media, along with others, talk about him. It also has a lot to do with the fact that I'm more mature and emotionally grounded than I was when I was 12, 13, 14 years old. I still think he's one of two most attractive men in the world, the other being Darren Hayes (I think Darren is attractive for completely different reasons than those of John; they're two completely different kinds of people). I'll tell you this much...I really wish I'd never thought so much about what it was that attracted me to him because I don't think it was healthy the way I thought of him back then and what I thought of him back then still has a lingering effect on me. This is pretty embarassing to tell you guys but I'm almost sure I'm not the ONLY girl who's ever felt like that.
