THE GOO GOO DOLLS Live In Buffalo July 4th 2004 (Warner Music Video) ** Goo Goo Dolls are an American trio (expanded to a five-piece for this home town outdoor Independence Day show) who are a medium-sized draw Stateside but mean diddly squat this side of the Atlantic. And it's not really hard to see why. Their music is a proficient but dull blend of hard rock, pop, and indie, unfailingly tuneful and perfect for US FM radio, but with no redeeming quirk of character or individuality. Indeed, the most interesting thing that happens here is the torrential downpour mid-set that musses up pin-up singer John Rzeznik's highlighted, flyaway hair. A half-hour documentary filmed in the week leading up to the gig reveals little of consequence either - you get to see Jack Black-alike bass player Robby Takac have his hair coloured a hideous purple, and drummer Mike Malinin play golf and check out the history section in his favourite book shop. Rock 'n' roll! http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/lifestyle/twentyfourseven/story.jsp?st ory=618779

| Um...dude...I don't appreciate that comment. You can't condemn an entire nation of people because of something one person said. If you could, then Americans would be pretty screwed...(sorry, not a big Bush fan...meh...) Ah yes, The Belfast Telegaph. What a paper that is, heh heh. I lived in Belfast for a few months...was supposed to move there for good but didn't in the end (it's a long story) That said...I have to object to the 'rock n roll' comment at the end of this review...we got to see the Goos being THEMSELVES. So maybe that doesn't involve hedonism, drugs, orgies with groupies...maybe Mike likes golf, maybe Robby likes having his hair dyed...so WHAT? That's who they are, get over it! We didn't want to see them throwing TVs out of windows and snorting cocaine and generally being obnoxious. Would that have constututed enough 'excitement' for the journalist? And lay off Robby's hair! It may be 'hideous' in YOUR opinion, but no-one asked for your damn opinion! It's his hair and he can do WTF he likes with it. And I happen to think it's cool. So screw you. Haha.

i mean, don't flip about it or anything, its just some dude in ireland who gets paid to talk trash about mainstream musicians to make themselves feel righteous and make it seem like they must have credibility and eclectic tastes. Do you ever see someone bashing an underground band? no. And how often do you see a mainstream band/artist getting bashed? always. Lots of critics make fun of the goo goo dolls for various stuff (robby's voice, robby's hair, john is too womanly/looks like bon jovi, music is corny/fruity, etc...). its just sad that some people who have never heard the goo goo dolls will refuse to buy anything from them cuz some dude said they sucked

I agree with Rogue, we want to see the guys doing their everyday routine. If Mike likes golf then so be it and if Robby needed maintainence on his colorful streaked locks then so be it. If they were doin lines or tokin on a bong, they'd have plenty to say about that as well. BREATH ROGUE, now count to ten.... I see the steam rollin off your post. WOW, I wonder if Robby knows he's got an attack dog named Rogue. LOL not that your a dog, you know what I meant.... it was a GOOd thing, you Robby worshipper you.

| Woof woof...grrrr...woof...um I mean, right you are, blessed by Goo It amuses me to be referred to as Robby's 'attack dog'. Hahaha. I just think it's ridiculous to call his hair 'hideous'. It's such a subjective thing. Clearly Robby doesn't think it's hideous, and besides - we didn't see a picture of the JOURNALIST'S hair anywhere, did we? I bet he's balding and the outburst about Robby's hair is actually caused by jealousy. Yeah, that must be it Yeah I can get pretty defensive of Robby...I hate when people rag on him, it really gets my back up. The guy gets a lot of stick that he doesn't deserve. Grrr. Well anyone who wants to pick on lil Robby can bring it on, I'm ready for 'em *bares teeth* ahahaha... But I completely agree with you, Blessed by Goo. If the guys were doing something quote unquote exciting that guy would have had even MORE to say about them! Ya know what? I LIKE the fact that Goo don't live like 'rock stars'. I find it refreshing. I don't understand how he can rag on them for being *SHOCK HORROR* NORMAL PEOPLE!

| We all know that our Goo's kick ass! This is just one persons opinion, and it means absolutely squat to me. There are always going to be people out there who are going to disagree, or not like the same things we do. Hey, it's their loss!
