Goo Fast **Please Read**

Sometimes, one just needs to feel refreshed. Not because one doesn't love what they do and what they are surrounded by. Not even that one tires of such things. Just because it would be nice to walk away for awhile, then return to wonder why you left in the first place. The one thing I love most besides family and close friends is the Goo Goo Dolls. For the past two years, I have been what one might call obsessed. I call it enlightened. I got lost in the world of goo; the music, the personality of the band, everything. And I never tried to find my way out. I never will. But I would just maybe like to take a nap. Something like that. So I will be taking down everything Goo from my walls, which is a lot, putting away ALL music (I can only listen when it comes on the radio), temporarily leaving the message boards, and I will not be talking about them. The minimum time I will be "fasting" is two weeks. After two weeks, I am just going to go as long as I can. If I achieve the desired effect, when I bring Goo back into my life, I will be so happy to hear it and, as I said before, will wonder why I left it in the first place (though I'm sure I really will remember). Though the Goo Goo Dolls have come to mean more to me over time, and will continue to, I find myself getting less and less truly excited. Enthusiastic still, but I am not longer feeling shivers down my spine and other indescribable emotions. So I am hoping all will go well. Please, if anything rocks the world of goo while I am on hiatus, E-MAIL ME! [email protected]. I am not starting my fast until Monday, so go ahead and respond to this thread, I will be reading it until then. I would be interested to hear everyone's thoughts. Thanks for listening!

I occasionally do "goo fasts" not purposely, but more by default. I mean, I have other CDs in my car and stuff that I listen to a lot. But yeah, those days when I decide to pop in DUTG or ABNG, I really do remember just why I love the band. Good luck

A Goo fast? What are ya, some kind of masochist?! Depriving yourself of quite possibly the greatest thing in the world for no good reason?!! Lol I'm just joking Becky. To be honest, I can kind of understand where you're coming from. I was talking to Saz_Goo last night about how sometimes you almost don't HEAR the Goos anymore...you know, you just become so used to a song (or even an album) that you utterly take it for granted. I think that's sort of what you're trying to describe here (if I'm wrong, tell me to shut up LOL) For me the way it works is that every now and again I'll hear a Goo song I've been listening to for years and I'll suddenly be struck by it all over again. It'll be like the first time I heard it. I'm going through a phase like that with 'Here is Gone' right now. Whenever I introduce new people to Goo, I do my best to put myself in their shoes, to listen to Goo as if it was the first time I ever heard them, to hear it with new ears, like they are hearing it...but it's not easy. I remember that moment of revelation when I first heard the Goo Goo Dolls...that moment of CONNECTION. (You guys understand what I mean, right? I mean you've felt it too or you wouldn't BE here. Either that or I'm just nuts! ) Over a number of years you start to take that connection for granted, and maybe it becomes more of an abstract thing, maybe you lose it all together. I think what you're trying to do is get that sort of 'connection' back again...and putting yourself through hell to do it, LOL! I understand your Goo-fatigue though. Hopefully when you come back to it after your 'fast', you'll be struck by the sheer brilliance of Goo anew, and fall in love with them all over again. Then you can get back to obssessing!

I do the same as Rogue. I tend to really hear something sometimes after years of litstening to it. I never really liked here is gone, but lately I have really been hit by it. It seems like after years of hearing something, it may hit me different in the place my life is now. (that didn't make any sense, but I hope you know what I mean). I couldn't do your fast, withdrawls would make me impossible to deal with. Good luck, hope you make it, I know I wouldn't, but good luck to you.

Last year I gave up the Goo Goo Dolls for lent as a bet between my sister, she said I couldn't do it for 40 days...but I did. It wasn't too hard, although sometimes I missed the music. But I found a lot more other things to listen to .....(not that I didn't listen to a variety all ready) And I think it was a really good thing to do, now I don't listen to them as much as before the "fast" but It doesn't bother me. They are always my band etc. but Its good for your perspective...esp. with the people at places like this (I am not implying that youre all crazy) I don't really visit this board that often anymore either. But its good! Its goo cleansing. I think its a good idea. since some people get so into it everything becomes desenseitized, you can't even hear the music anymore.

Desensitized it a great way to explain it! Also, someone on Its All Goo explained it well like this: Absence makes the heart grow fonder! Those both come remarkably close to what I am feeling.

Well good luck in your "goo fasting" I guess I kinda do that every now and then, I could go a few weeks without listening to a Goo CD, but I don't think I could take all my pictures dow or stop checking in on message boards. See ya when we see ya -Kelly
