Will someone tell me why I live here? It's October 12th and we're getting snow. Power lines are down. There are travel advisories. Where I go to school there's 8" of snow (C'mon cancellations!). Oh! Added bonus - there's now thunder. I didn't know you could have snow and thunder at the same time.

You see that cloud? It had to pass through me to get to you. We did indeed have snow, sun and thunder all at the same time. It's been the most bizarre day. And, it is so cold. This is the time of year I question my sanity for living in the North.

It's times like these I'm ready to kick the renters out of our rental property in Daytona Beach and move down there. Wanna come with me? I didn't know you got hit with it. They were calling it a lake effect storm here, so I assumed some cold air over the warm Lake Erie made the snow. Hope everything is okay for you. My power has been flickering for the past 10 minutes so I think it's time for bed. Hopefully I'll wake up to school cancellations or my power will go and the alarm will never wake me up...

Yeah, my sister in Michigan today said they got snow too. I love snow, but it's way too early for it, methinks. A friend of mine in Minnesota told me about how they have the thunder & snow combination. She had a name for it, but I can't remember what it was. That must be kinda bizaarre. Wishing you get that school cancellation you're hoping for. It's the least they can do to give ya a break. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Okay, I went to look it up on google...gotsta love the google... and it's called "thunder snow". Jeesh, you'd think they could come up with a cooler name for it. Maybe in MN they call it yeahsureyabetcha or something. But here's the article I found: http://www.nytimes.com/learning/students/scienceqa/archive/990118b.html

Well, I got my wish. And am somehow awake 2 hours before I normally would be... Basically all of WNY is closed. Schools, banks, malls, roads, everything. The listings just told me that customs offices to Canada are closed. Trees still have their leaves, so the snow is breaking them like crazy. Somewhere that I haven't determined yet got 30 inches of snow. Erie County has a water ban (I'll take a nice hot shower in my house 2 miles outside of Erie for them). I'm one of those people who bitches at people who talk about how it snows year round in Buffalo. I think I lost that battle yesterday...

It was snowing quite badly here for awhile yesterday but nothing stuck. 30 INCHES....that's insane! It's OCTOBER! I can't handle snow this early...I'm just not ready to deal with it yet. I can understand snow in November and as a kid we usually had piles of it by Thanksgiving. But never have I experienced snow before Halloween. It's been a very weird, yucky fall. At least all your classes are cancelled today.....bonus. **Your record snowfall made the news here today. You guys are celebrities!**
