(4/25/00, 3 p.m. ET) - The
National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs are well on their way and
Barenaked Ladies drummer Tyler Stewart makes no bones about
rooting for his home team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"Well, I've got to go with
my Leafs even though they've rolled over and played dead a
couple of times last week, but I've got to go Maple Leafs,"
Stewart says. "You cannot count out Colorado with the
addition of [Ray] Bourque and [Dave] Andreychuk and.. who's also
looking strong? Philly, I think the organization is in disarray,
unfortunately."
Although Stewart thinks they
are shaky, Philadelphia beat Buffalo to advance. Also advancing
are perennial playoff chokers, the New Jersey Devils. Stewart
says firing coach Robbie Ftorek before the playoffs may have
been the best move they've made.
"It's weird because they
perennially have had great records and choked in the first round
and they were anticipating that again and they saw some sort of
team unity problem," he says. "I've heard Ftorek is
sort of a goofball anyway from a few people. I'd sure like to
see Scott Gomez go far because he's had a great year and it
would be nice to see him go a lot farther in the playoffs. That
would mean that they would have to face the Leafs at some point
so. who knows? It's anyone's playoff."
